Fingerboard
The finger board is cut and scooped before attaching to the neck. Once on the neck, the whole neck is mortised into the body of the violin and then the neck is finished on the side opposite to the finger board.
- After flattening the surface that will mate with the neck, the Fingerboard is first tapered to the correct width.
- The top is then curved and scooped to the standard radius.
- A hollow is drawn out on the underside to relieve weight and improve the aesthetics of the end of the fingerboard.
- Hollowing is done with a japanese double convex plane and gouges.
- The fingerboard is then glued to the neck. The extension of the fingerboard over the belly will be used to adjust the neck mortise.
