The Electric Violin, MK I – 2007
This was my first instrument (aside from the chimes I made from copper plumbing pipe for Grade 4 music class). Most of the hardware and electronics were borrowed from a Supra electric violin from Steve’s Music in Montreal. The wood is slightly spalted yellow birch from my brother-in-law’s woodpile. This was a exercise in instrument make. The supra’s pizoelectric pickup sits under the bridge. The electric sound is clean but lacks depth.
- Side view.
- Partially carved
- The raw materials for the violin came from birch junks.
- The final product, designed for portability.
